2001 Annual Report - Boy Scout Troop 33 ADVANCEMENT - David Billings earned the Eagle Scout Award during 2001. We also awarded numerous other rank advancements and merit badges to our Scouts during the year. Return to the top INCOME - We had $17,742.00 of income in 2001. Eight fundraisers generated $5,521.00. The troop received $1,376.00 in donations. Annual dues totaled $700.00, with another $10,145.00 collected through activity fees. Our fundraisers included: + Pancake Breakfast + Spaghetti Dinner + Fourth of July Food booth + Trails End Popcorn Sale + Dulcimer Festival Food Booth + DeKalb Cornfest Food Booth + Sears Grand Re-Opening + Yeager's Farm Gourd Harvest Return to the top EXPENSE - From the expense side, Troop 33 expended $15,143.00 during 2001. Our expenses included: $ 288.00 Advancement Awards $ 1,960.00 Equipment $ 77.00 Printing/Postage $ 405.00 Scholarships $ 665.00 Registration/Boy Life/Insurance $ 633.00 Special Events/Cabin Rental/Activity Subsidies $ 11,115.00 Activities Return to the top EQUIPMENT - We added a fourth Klondike Sled, first aid equipment, stakes, ropes, tire inflator for bike trips, a new troop banner, and some small repair items. We purchased a trailer hitch and re-registered our fleet of 6 equipment trailers. We also purchased a lemon press and a large commercial table-fryer for our food booth concessions. Return to the top TROOP 33 PROGRAM for the year 2001 Our program included 34 troop meetings and 83 activities, of which 58 activities were free of charge. We involved 73 people; including 41 youth and 32 adults. Activities took us to 17 states plus the District of Columbia and included over 16,500 miles of travel. Our activities took us to both coasts; the Pacific in June and Atlantic in July. Click here to see a list of our activities. Return to the top WEEKENDS - Our weekend activities included winter survival camping, snowmobiling, winter skills, Klondike Derby, ice boating trips, and advancement. We also had climbing trips, bicycle trips, fundraisers, Courts of Honor, Scout-O-Rama, Camporees, hiking trips, sailing, canoe trips, water skiing trips, cabin overnights, tent camping, horseback riding, and fun locations like Six Flags Great America, Disney Quest, and Laser Quest. Return to the top SERVICE- Troop 33 conducted 20 service activities during 2001. 1. Scouting for Food --Annual curbside food collection for Salvation Army 2. Augsburg Choir Dinner Project --Clean-up crew after dinner for visiting choir group 3. Funeral Honor Guard --Provided honor guard for Scouter Pat Roach's funeral 4. Yard Work for Widow --Spent day doing spring yard work project 5. Kishwaukee Cuboree Staff Cooks --Staffed cooking event & cooked dinner for 350 people 6. First Lutheran Picnic Cooks --Cooked dogs and burgers for 200 people 7. Bikes for Kids Project #1 --Refurbished old bicycles for donation to needy 8. Memorial Day Flags Service Project --Put up flags downtown, and took down flags at dusk 9. Bicycle Donation--Homeless Shelter --Donated 18 bicycles to children at homeless shelter 10. Food Donation #1--Homeless Shelter --Donated food for homeless shelter in early July 11. Food Donation #2--Homeless Shelter --Donated food for homeless shelter in mid July 12. Food Donation #3--Women's Shelter --Donated food for women's shelter in mid July 13. Great Western Trail Clean-Up --Picked up trash along bicycle trail 14. Food Donation #4--Homeless Shelter --Donated food for homeless shelter in late August 15. Food Donation #5--Meals on Wheels --Donated food in late August 16. Food Donation #6--Women's Shelter --Donated food in late August 17. Moving Day Project for Family --Helped local family move into new house 18. Scout-About Bicycle Ride Project --Helped staff council biking fundraiser 19. Bikes for Kids Project #2 --Refurbished old bicycles for donation to needy 20. WELCA Banquet servers and clean-up crew --Helped serve beverages and cleaned up dishes afterwards Return to the top SUMMER CAMP -- A week at Camp Lowden summer camp near Oregon, Illinois was very hot and we experienced some monsoon rains, but everyone had a great week and accomplished many things. Return to the top NORTHERN ADVENTURE -- Our high adventure in February featured snowshoeing in the Porcupine Mountains along Lake Superior in Michigan. We slept in quinzees (snow shelters), camping in wind chills of -53 degrees. States traveled: - Illinois - Michigan - Wisconsin Return to the top WESTERN ADVENTURE-- This major 18-day high adventure tour featured bicycling 530 miles through Montana and Idaho. We also hiked at Badlands National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Mount St Helens, Olympic National Park, and North Cascades National Park. We swam in the Pacific Ocean, toured Seattle, visited Mount Rushmore, Little Bighorn Battlefield, Grand Coulee Dam, and enjoyed caving at Jewel Cave National Monument. We also stayed at Ellsworth Air Force Base, Everett Naval Station, and camped at several state parks. States traveled: - Idaho - Nebraska - Illinois - Oregon - Iowa - South Dakota - Minnesota - Washington - Montana - Wisconsin - Wyoming Return to the top EASTERN ADVENTURE-- This high adventure tour was highlighted by a visit to Washington D.C. where we spent two days touring monuments and museums including a special V.I.P. tour of the U.S. Capitol. We also visited the U.S. Air Force Museum in Dayton, OH and the Gettysburg Battlefield in PA. We camped amid wild ponies at Assateague Island in Maryland where we swam in the surf of the Atlantic Ocean. In Virginia, we toured Norfolk Naval Base, Nauticus Museum, and the U.S.S. Wisconsin Battleship. We stayed overnight at Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base and Bolling Air Force Base. Scouts enjoyed Busch Gardens in Williamsburg and toured the historic site of Jamestown. We also visited the 2001 National Scout Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia. States traveled: - District of Columbia - Ohio - Illinois - Pennsylvania - Indiana - Virginia - Maryland - West Virginia Return to the top
