SENIOR CITIZEN VEHICLE SAFETY
CHECKPOINT IS APRIL 30

The DeKalb Police Department will hold a Senior Citizen Vehicle Safety Checkpoint on April 30.

The safety checkpoint is a free service provided to seniors through volunteers of the DeKalb County Triad and Kishwaukee College. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the DeKalb Township Garage, 2323 S. Fourth St., across from Manning Ford.

Because of the popularity of this event, appointments are necessary. Seniors age 60 and older can call for an appointment and receive a 25-point safety inspection. The inspection takes about 15 minutes.

At the conclusion of the inspection, the vehicle’s owner will be given a checklist with the results that they can then take to a trusted mechanic so any issues can be addressed. Some of the items to be inspected include tires, fluids, wipers, lights, belts and more.

Every senior getting their vehicle inspected will receive a free goody bag that’s been supplied by local auto care businesses. Refreshments will be served in the waiting area. Boy Scout Troop 33 will be on site providing free car washes (optional) for each vehicle after the inspection. This is a fun event and a great time of year to have your vehicle checked on for potential mechanical problems.

Appointments are necessary and space is limited. Call Chad McNett at the DeKalb Police Department at 815-748-8439 to sign up.

The mission of TRIAD is to bring law enforcement, community organizations and individuals together to improve the quality of life for older adults in DeKalb County. For more information, visit www.dekalbcountytriad.org.
