PROJECTS COMPLETED
HOLIDAY MISSION
December 26, 2008 - January 3, 2009
Troop 33 sent 7 Scouts and leaders to Galveston, TX for hurricane relief projects.
Meal Preparation - Kitchen Duty
Our crew assisted with meal prep and kitchen duties. Each day hundreds of meals were distributed to victims and volunteers through carry-out meals.
House on P Street
Home owned by an elderly couple flooded with 3 feet of water in the second story due to the storm surge. Troop 33 assisted with some of the re-wiring of the home. We had an adult electrician in our group.
House on 71st Street
This home was completely submerged, as the water level lowered 6 feet of water remained in the home for a full week. Our crew worked to strip the floors and walls in the final gutting process.
SPRING MISSION
March 20-29, 2009
Troop 33 sent 12 Scouts and leaders to Galveston, TX for hurricane relief projects.
C4C Kitchen Duty
Our crew assisted with kitchen duties. Each day meals were prepared for volunteers. We assisted with washing dishes and clean-up procedures.
House on __ Street
Troop 33 assisted with some gutting on the second floor of the home. The flooring was removed and bathroom fixtures were torn out.
House on 71st Street
Our crew worked to drywall the home and do some of the initial taping and mudding. Earlier in December our crew had worked to strip the floors and walls in the final gutting process. Since that time the home had received new windows, siding, and had been rewired. We were excited to have the opportunity to drywall. We replaced the walls we had gutted in December.
Downtown Building Rehab
A building in downtown Galveston built in 1917 had been flooded with 14 feet of water as well as a wind damaged roof flooding from above. We removed debris from the interior second floor through a chute, and removed debris from the sidewalk area.
Jones Park
This park had been flooded and benches were water damaged with much damage to trees and equipment. We replaced two benches and sanded all equipment in preparation for painting.
House on Avenue Q
We removed large amounts of debris from a home lot that had been flooded with 21 feet of water. The amount of debris had been sitting wet/damp for over six months. It was carfully loaded into wheelbarrows for transport to a debris pile along the street.
Air Conditioning Unit for Church
The air conditioning was failing in the church. Two of our adults cleaned an older unit and removed and replaced a faulty electric motor drive for an air conditioning unit. The motor was purchased and donated with troop funds. This was done in evening hours after regular projects.
