This weekend event involves Cabin Camping at MacQueen Forest Preserve which will include Cooking some excellent meals, followed by a day of Sledding at Russell Woods Forest Preserve.

January 22-23, 2011.

A day of fun filled enjoyment is spent Skiing and Snowboarding at Cascade Mountain Resort in Portage, Wisconsin, followed by a hotel overnight. The next day is spent at Kalihari indoor Water Park in Wisconsin Dells.

A day enjoying the Adventure Travel Show held at the Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois. Hundreds of interesting Exhibit Boothss depicting adventures from all over the world await exploring. Activities include Scuba Diving in a heated pool, Camel Riding, and Zip Line.

KLONDIKE DERBY - $10
February 5, 2011.

Troops from DeKalb County gather at the Sycamore Sportsman’s Cub to pull a Klondike sled around a course competing in various Scout skills such as: Fire Building, Compass, Lashing, Log Sawing, First Aid, Tomahawk Throwing, Track Identification, Sled Race, and indoor Rifle Range. It provides a challenge to see how well the Bear, Cobra, Dragon, and Forest Patrols can do.

February 5, 2011.

Pack 104 is holding their Blue & Gold Banquet on Saturday February 5, which will be held at the First United Methodist Church on N Fourth Street in DeKalb. A Webelos will crossover into Troop 33 at this event. A couple members of Troop 33 will be present to welcome the Webelos.

STARVED ROCK ADVENTURE - FREE February 6, 2011.

Our day of adventure begins with Eagle Watching along the Illinois River, Canyon Hiking to frozen waterfalls, Sledding at Allen Park in Ottawa, and exploring the Visitor Centers at Starved Rock Lock and Dam and Starved Rock State Park.

GREAT NORTH ADVENTURE - $200 - OVERNIGHT
February 18-21, 2011.

A 4-day adventure to Wisconsin & Minnesota begins with an indoor Water Park in Minocqua. We explore a giant Ice Palace in Eagle River, then Snow Camping overnight in Quinzee Snow Shelters at Camp Barksdale. We’ll be Ice Hiking across frozen Lake Superior to explore Ice Caves at Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. We’ll drive on the ice highway to Madeline Island, visit the Northern Great Lakes Visitors Center, do Snowshoeing, explore Great Lakes Aquarium in Duluth, hotel overnight with Indoor Pool in Hinckley, Minnesota, Dog Sledding is our final day of adventure.

GATHERING OF EAGLES BANQUET - CLASS of 2010
February 25, 2011.

This banquet at the Wyndham Hotel in Lisle honors a gathering of nearly 300 new Eagle Scouts of Three Fires Council. The Eagle Class of 2010. These Eagles come from DeKalb, Kane, Kendall, and DuPage Counties. Troop 33’s 2010 Eagle Scouts include: A.J. Rouse, Steven Murphy, and Jonathan West.

This Service Project involves a community wide Food Drive. Troop 33 will be collecting food from the south side of DeKalb, plus Malta and Cortland. Scouts will be working to pick up food on collection routes and sorting food at the Salvation Army Food Pantry.

This Dinner Event involves adult Scouting leaders in DeKalb County.

Come one Come all to the Kishwaukee District Dinner. This event takes place on March 12, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m. at O'Leary's Pub & Grille, 260 E Lincoln Hwy. DeKalb,IL. The cost is $24.00 per person. This is a non uniform event. There were 8 Nominations for the District Award Of Merit, plus several other awards by Cub Packs and Boy Scout Troops in Kishwaukee District.

March 13, 2011.

We’ll be in Warrenville, Illinois at the Vertical Endeavors Climbing Gym, one of the biggest in the nation. Scouts will be Climbing on a simulated rock surface.

SPRING BREAK - SERVICE PROJECT - $200 - OVERNIGHT
March 19-26, 2011.

This 8-day event includes adventure highlights as well as a major Service Project. Adventures include an overnight visit at Fort Knox military reservation, a tour of General George Patton Museum, and Caving at Mammoth Cave National Park. We will also enjoy a tour of the Corvette Assembly Plant and visit the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green.

We’ll be Tent Camping in Beechmont, Kentucky. Our service project location is His House, an abandoned high school being restored into a national disaster relief center. When complete it will provide housing for homeless disaster victims, classrooms for disaster training and certification, a control center for relief efforts, and a storage and distribution center for critically needed food and supplies.

AVIATION DAY - FREE
April 25, 2011.

We’ll be spending our Monday holiday at DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport working to earn the Aviation Merit Badge. Work will include learning about aviation principles and history, plus touring the airport, inspecting planes, and using Flight Simulators to experience how pilots fly.

April 30-May 1, 2011.

This weekend is filled with a variety of activities. We begin by touring the reconstructed Apple River Fort in Elizabeth. We spend much of the day at the U.S. Grant Pilgrimage in historic Galena, Illinois, which includes activities and Hiking to various Historic Sites. We will be Tent Camping along the Mississippi River in Iowa where Scouts can enjoy Cooking and Fishing. On Sunday we will enjoy Caving at Maquoketa Caves State Park before returning home to DeKalb.

June 6, 2011.

The Court of Honor will include awards presentations to Scouts, a crossover ceremony for some new members, sign ups for upcoming activities, especially our upcoming Dulcimer Festival. Some audio/visual presentations will include April-May activities and a special guest representing the National White River Canoe Race in Arkansas, which will take place in late July.

June 10-12, 2011.

This event draws thousands of people to Gebhard Woods State Park in Morris, Illinois for the Gebhard Woods Dulcimer Festival. The festival features folk music and dulcimers. Troop 33 provides the food concession for the festival. Scouts can earn money for their Scout Accounts while working at our food booth. We also attend a car show on Saturday night in Morris as a fun event. Come to a free campout, earn money, work hard, have fun. That's what the Dulcimer Festival offers to you.

FIRST AID MERIT BADGE - CLASS #1 - FREE
June 13, 2011.

First Aid is an Eagle required merit badge. The class will instruct Scouts in all the first aid training for ranks and First Aid Merit Badge, plus CPR training. This program takes place in two parts, each on a Monday night directly after the business portion of the troop meeting. Scouts can earn an important merit badge and more importantly learn lifesaving skills to be prepared as a Scout.

This is an exciting fun-filled event that includes rafting on the East Race of the St Joseph River in South Bend, Indiana. Their park district operates the program. We need an 18-year-old person in each raft. No flip flops allowed. You must have tennis shoes, water shoes, or sandals. Dress in swimwear, you will get plenty wet while rafting. Their park district stations lifeguards and rescue kayaks along the quarter mile man-made whitewater run for safety. It is a great starting activity for whitewater fun and rafting.

FIRST AID MERIT BADGE - CLASS #2 - FREE
June 20, 2011.

This is the second of two classes for First Aid. Both classes instruct Scouts in all the first aid training for ranks and First Aid Merit Badge, plus CPR training. This program takes place Monday night directly after the business portion of the troop meeting. Scouts can earn an important merit badge and more importantly learn lifesaving skills to be prepared as a Scout.

CANOE TRAINING #1 - FREE
June 24, 2011.

Scouts gather to plan for Canoe Training for the White River National Canoe Race. Conditioning and technique for a 3-day 120 mile canoe race.

SCUBA MERIT BADGE - CLASS #5
June 25-26, 2011.

Our final open water dive weekend is June 25-26, we will meet at the Church at 7:30 AM Saturday June 25 and leave shortly thereafter. We need to be on sight and checked in at the Haigh Quarry by 10 AM, it is about a 1:45 hour drive to Kankakee. This will involve a total of four dives, two each day. After successfully passing these sessions, the Scouts will be certified NAUI divers and have earned the Scuba Merit badge.

Scouts will need to complete the online course, AND the final exam before June 24.

Scouts need to make arrangement to go one more time to Clifton Diving to be fitted for equipment to take for that weekend. Mr. Clifton would like to have this done on or before Thursday June 23.
