PATHWAYS TO EAGLE - $30
August 5-7, 2012.

Troops gather in Bolingbrook to earn merit badges. About 800 Scouts attend this event, some camping, some for the day. Starting Friday evening they have a climbing wall and ice skating at an indoor ice arena. In the morning Scouts can attend four different merit badge classes chosen in advance. Prerequisites must be completed in advance. Meals are provided. Saturday evening is spent at a water park with giant slides, tube river, and pool. It's a great event for Camping, Merit Badges, Ice Skating, Climbing, and Water Park. It provides a challenge for advancement and a lot of fun.

September 01, 2011 - Sale Begins.

Earn money for your Scout Account by selling Scout Popcorn. The official start date for selling popcorn is Thursday September 1, 2011. Bill Todtz is Troop 33's Popcorn Kernel. That means that he's the one with the answers to your questions. you should deliver your order to him. He's handling the popcorn sales campaign.

You should have received an order form in the mail to start selling on September 1. If you did not receive a form and want to sell popcorn, please contact Bill Todtz.

JONAMAC OVERNIGHT - FREE
September 10-11, 2011.

Jonamac's annual Scout overnight will attract boy Scout Troops and Cub Packs from around the area. We will meet at the church garage in the afternoon and camp overnight at Jonamac. There are many fun things to do in the barnyard as well as the corn maze, which celebrates the new DeKalb High School. Early Sunday morning Troop 33 will cook a pancake breakfast for the 100-200 Scouts camping overnight. Enjoy fun activities, camp overnight, and cook for a huge crowd of Scouts in the morning.

REMEMBRANCE 9-11 PROJECT - FREE
September 11, 2011.

This September 11th is the 10-year anniversary remembrance service of the 9-11 attack. Scouts will be present in uniform at the Kishwaukee Hospital Healing Garden (north end of hospital outdoors) at 12:30 p.m. in preparation of the event. The ceremony starts at 1:00 p.m. Various Scout Troops and Cub Packs from the surrounding area will be there along with others from emergency services and community to offer remembrance to a sad day in U.S. history. The ceremony takes place outdoors in the beautiful Healing Garden of the hospital. There will be a short service project held immediately afterward.

DeKalb Kite Festival - FREE
September 11, 2011.

The Kite Festival began years ago when a boy asked his parents why DeKalb didn't have a kite festival. Now it does. A Scout in Troop 33, Nathan Overmann, is the kiteboy. His parents chair the event. This year's amazing sky above the north 40 will have things like a 90-foot octopus kite plus fighting kites, stunt and dancing kites, ladybug, teddy bear, owl, manta ray and cat kites. A special memorial kite fly will commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11. There is kite-making, candy drop, games, hover craft demonstration and other activities. You can get a ride with Cliff from the 9-11 ceremony at Kishwaukee Hospital to the North 40 for the Kite Festival.

GLIDDEN HOMESTEAD PROJECT - FREE

We will be working on the gardens on the front lawn of the Glidden Homestead Musuem located on West Lincoln Hwy. This is a great Service Project for the community at a place of history. We meet at Glidden House at 2:00 p.m. and work until 5:00 - 5:30 p.m. They have really appreciated the work we did back in May and August and are looking forward to our continued work in September. Please come and help a good cause.

1. OVERNIGHT SECURITY

Troop 33 has been providing overnight security for Septemberfest at St Mary's School for several years. On the evening September 23 and September 24 Scouts will be sleeping on picnic tables under the big top circus tent during the night. It's the biggest tent we sleep in all year. We meet at St Mary's church at 9:30 p.m. We're given food. Spend the night. Scouts need to be picked up early morning 7:00 a.m. Saturday morning requires early movement to Kiwanis Park to set up AYSO food booths.

2. FOOD BOOTH

Troop 33 has been approved to provide funnel cakes for Septemberfest. We will also be serving our delicious Lemon Shake Ups. Those will be the only items we will offer on our menu. We are limited to that menu, which should make it an easier booth to operate.

We will have a set up crew before we open and take down/clean up with overnight crew afterwards. A schedule sign up will take place at this Monday's troop meeting. Shifts will last 3-4 hours.

Our help in Electronics Recycling serves the environment by recycling things that don't belong in a landfill. Located at the DeKalb County Health Center on N Annie Glidden Road (next to the Nursing Home). We unload vehicles as they arrive with, computers, printers, fax, scanners, cell phones, stereos, tv, monitors, compact fluorescent bulbs, and household batteries.

Three Fires Camporall - $25.00
October 14,15,16, 2011.

Be Prepared. The Boy Scouts of America have put this motto into practice for over a century. This October 14-16, the BSA is set to host several thousand Scouts at the 2011 Camporall where its theme "Prepared. For Life." will continue that tradition. Located at Sandwich Fairgrounds, on October 14-16, the council-wide event will feature ShelterBox, a disaster relief charity that provides shelter and equipment to disaster survivors around the world.

Over 50 additional Outdoor Activities such as Archery, Climbing Wall, BMX Bike-A-Thon, Native American village, Arena Show, and Fireworks Show (weather permitting) will take place on the grounds through-out the weekend.

Over 5,000 Scouts are expected to be there for the 2011 Camporall. Don't miss out. It will be a great weekend of Scouting adventure.

Our Food Drive will help serve the needs of people in central DeKalb County through the food pantry at Salvation Army. Scouts will be collecting food items at homes in two areas of Cortland on Saturday morning. The Food Booth will help serve the Charity Tourament for the DeKalb Youth Football League (Bengals). We will sell food and drink to people attending football games on Saturday and Sunday. A portion of the profits from the tournament will go to support Juvenile Diabetes. We will have 3-hour shifts starting Friday night for set up, followed by 4 shifts on Saturday and 4 shifts on Sunday.

Troop 33 has been asked to present an outdoor flag ceremony for Veteran's Day Friday November 11th at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Crest Retirement Center. There are several WWII Vets living at Oak Crest who greatly appreciate an event on Veteran's Day. Schools are on vacation that day. Oak Crest inviting those from Troop 33 who participate to join them for a FREE buffett style lunch. Scouts must be in uniform and arrive at 10:30 a.m. to have some time for preparation.

Den Chief Training is for Scouts who want to help Cub Scout Den Leaders with their dens. This is a Leadership position for Scouts. It is a lot of FUN! This course provides important skills to be effective Den Chiefs helping younger Cub Scouts. Learn songs, games, and crafts to share with dens, as well as resource materials & information.

The First Lutheran Thanksgiving Banquet is something we help with with every year. It's the most delicious service project we're involved with. This is a service project. Service hours. Come prepared to work hard. Our job will be to serve beverages and do clean up work for the dinner. Hundreds of dishes and silverware will be washed and dried. We'll have an opportunity to sample some really great food! We work hard! We eat hard! (or something like that). Bring energy, a positive attitude for serving others, and a manageable apetite.

The Pancake Breakfast features a menu including all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, eggs, coffee, lemonade. Also we will be collecting food for the Salvation Army food pantry. We will have a drop box for food at the breakfast. Let people know about the food collections as you sell tickets to them. Tickets are $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for children under 12. Preschool children are free. Scouts will receive a 50% commission for sales plus an additional amount for working at the event.

HORSEBACK TRIP - $25.00

We will be enjoying a Sunday afternoon Horseback Ride at White Pines Ranch west of Oregon, Illinois. White Pines Ranch covers 200 acres of beautiful woods, pastures and horse trails. It will include a horseback trail ride led by their wranglers. Scouts will wear helmets and be suited to a gentle horse appropriate for first time riders. The horses will be walking, no running is allowed. The Holiday Party is something we enjoy every year. This event is highlighted by food, pop, optional gift exhcange, awards, Senior Patrol Leader Election, and a full length movie.

SENIOR PATROL LEADER ELECTION
Our annual Senior Patrol Election takes place this evening. We have several Scouts running in the election. First we will hold a primary election, followed by a final election. The new Senior Patrol Leader will begin his leadership position on January 1, 2012.
FILM - CARS-2
The film, "Cars 2", is a G-rated animated comedy feature from Disney Films. Star race car Lightning McQueen and his pal Mater go overseas to compete in the World Grand Prix race. But the road to the championship becomes rocky as Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage. It stars the voices of Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy, and Michael Caine.

SKI / SNOWBOARD TRIP - $100.00 / $60.00

THIS TRIP HAS BEEN CANCELED

The Cascade Mountain provides an opportunity for excellent Skiing / Snowboarding. It is one of the best ski resorts in the area. They have a great learning area, along with beginner, Intermediate, and Expert downhill runs. There are two ski lodge buildings at the base and one on top of the mountain. A day of great fun and adventure awaits you on the snow covered slopes of Cascade Mountain near Portage, Wisconsin.

We will drive north to Portage, Wisconsin and stop at a restaurant for an early lunch before hitting the slopes. Bring a sack lunch or money for lunch. It's cheaper to eat in Portage than at the ski lodge.

The cost will be $100.00 for the day. If you have your own skis, poles, boots, and helmet the cost is $60.00

Heading north to Cascade Mountain in Wisconsin provides the benefits of gravity and snow like never before on this sure to be epic adventure!

JOHN GRANT MEMORIAL TRIP - $200.00

John Grant passed away on Monday December 26, 2011.

TROOP 33 is honored to serve as pall bearers for the funeral of John Grant. The date of visitation and funeral will be Friday December 30, 2011 at the Owen Funeral Home, 12 Collins Drive in Cartersville, Georgia 30120. Visitation: 10:30-11:30 a.m. Memorial Service 11:30 a.m. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.

It's important that everyone looks sharp at the service. Full uniform if you have one, otherwise Scout shirt with dark colored dress pants. We are honoring the memory of John and thanking him for doing so much for Scouting. All Scouts will serve as pall bearers or honorary pall bearers.
